CCSSO's States Leading Network

State education leaders create conditions for school communities to be effective and improve student outcomes. Today, state education leaders face a changing federal landscape that could shift more responsibility and decision-making to states. As state leaders prepare for these possible shifts—on everything from waivers to accountability to funding—they have requested expertise and resources to stay focused on what matters most: improving literacy and math outcomes for all students.

The States Leading Network (SLN) is a nonpartisan network designed to help states lead with clarity and strength in this changing landscape. Led by the CCSSO, in partnership with Watershed Advisors, the Network supports a group of states to gain the strategy, support and peer connections they request to lead the work that improves student outcomes.

-Setting and executing their priorities and goals focused on increasing literacy and math outcomes for all students within their states.

-Undergoing federal funding reviews to identify challenges and opportunities within existing policies, structures and budgets to align with state priorities and drive better outcomes for students.

-Building a coherent, ambitious multi-year plan that includes all available levers to stay the course on the agency’s priorities amid shifts in federal policy and funding.

-Implementing their state plan to materially improve the experience students and teachers have in the classroom every day.

CCSSO will share Network insights, learnings and resources with all CCSSO state and territorial members as they navigate federal shifts and work to raise student achievement. The States Leading Network states are Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Indiana, Illinois, Maryland, New York and Texas.
