Welcome and Overview, ESSER Impact Showcase Carissa Moffat Miller, CEO, Council of Chief State School Officers opens the virtual showcase by giving an overview of the Coalition to Advance Future Student Success and how the unprecedented injection of federal emergency relief aid provided through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) fund presents an opportunity to transform the U.S. school system so it provides each and every student with the educational opportunity they deserve. 

 

State Levers for Recovery: Alabama, ESSER Impact Showcase State leaders from Alabama discuss their aligned coordination and partnership around recovery efforts and the advancement of their education priorities of literacy, numeracy and mental health.

Washington, D.C. & Ector County, TX: Large Scale Academic Interventions, ESSER Impact Showcase Leaders from Washington, D.C. and Ector County, Texas share their districts’ approaches to high dosage tutoring initiatives and the unique challenges and opportunities in the context of learning recovery and academic support impacting the students and communities they serve.

Reflections from the U.S. Department of Education, ESSER Impact Showcase James Lane, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, U.S. Department of Education highlights how ESSER funding was impactful in ensuring all schools became fully operational, transitioning from virtual to in-person learning, as well as supporting mental health and providing resources to address the deep interruption of student learning.
