Community of Innovation:

Modernizing State P20W+ Data Systems

The Community of Innovation: Modernizing State P20W+ Data Systems is forging groundbreaking partnerships among state agencies, technology companies, education advocates and others to accelerate the modernization of state systems that securely manage data, from preschool through K-12 and into college and/or the workforce.

Effective state data systems can present a fuller picture of student and worker experiences and outcomes, giving state leaders solid data to inform decisions for improvement.

This unique community led by the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is developing approaches to accelerate progress of state P-20W+ (preschool through workforce) data system modernization efforts, align the market to enable innovation and scale, and share the experiences for the benefit of other states.

It will:

  • Prioritize innovation and explore new solutions.
  • Focus on strengthening and developing capabilities across process, technology and policy.
  • Ensure strong privacy and security protections across systems.
  • Aim to generate free, products for public use and tools in high-priority areas for core states.
  • Elevate the importance of communicating this work to the field.

Resources: To accelerate the progress states are making to modernize and securely manage their data systems, the Community of Innovation curates resources on the P-20W+ Data Accelerator website. While the P-20W+ Data Accelerator follows proven models, the community of practices works intensively with a few core states to identify best-in-class practices, strategies and resources for the benefit of all states. You can explore these resources, including the Data Storytelling Toolkit and the Guide for Sustaining P-20W+ Data Governance, here.
