Advancing Literacy Education: Strengthening Educator Preparation Programs

This brief aims to inform state leaders about the results of a novel approach to advancing teacher preparation practices that was piloted by a workgroup of the Council of Chief State School Officers’ (CCSSO) High-Quality Instructional Materials and Professional Development (IMPD) Network. The approach taken by the Educator Preparation Program Workgroup was designed to equip future teachers with necessary knowledge and skills relative to the science of reading and high-quality instructional materials, ensuring that their future students receive high-quality instruction. As a follow-up to the first brief, this resource presents the results from the pilot, as well as the approaches workgroup states are taking to scale shifts in educator preparation statewide.
